چکیده

on slime polysaccharide A, whereas depolymerases associated with phages 6, 7, 9, and 10, like pseudomonas phage 2, hydrolyzed slime polysaccharide B. None of the depolymerases was active on slime polysaccharide C. Despite exhaustive purification, depolymerase activity was found to band with the phage particles at a density of 1.49 to 1.51 g/mI in a density gradient composed to cesium chloride. These results suggest that the depolymerases are firmly bound to the phage particles.

Polysaccharide depolymerase associated with bacteriophage infection.

Bartell, Pasquale F. (University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia), Thomas E. Orr, and Grace K. H. Lam. Polysaccharide depolymerase associated with bacteriophage infection. J. Bacteriol. 92:56-62. 1966.-A recently isolated bacteriophage of Pseudomonas aeruginosa was observed, in association with bacteria, to produce a polysaccharide depolymerase. Exposure of slime polysaccharide to the enzyme at t...

Slime of Pseudomonas aeruginosa: in vivo production.

Indirect hemagglutination inhibition tests were employed to detect slime in concentrations as low as 1 mug/ml. Increasing concentrations of slime resulted in proportionately greater inhibition of hemagglutination. Peritoneal aspirates and plasma of mice injected with slime were shown to exhibit the inhibitory activity of slime. The rapid dissemination of slime into the peripheral circulation wa...

Composition of Pseudomonas aeruginosa slime.

1. The slime produced by eight strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa on a number of different media was demonstrated to be qualitatively the same. Small quantitative differences may be occasioned by differences in the extraction procedure, the growth medium or the strain of organism used. 2. The slime was shown to be predominantly polysaccharide with some nucleic acid material and a small amount of...

Isolation and characterization of an alginase from mucoid strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa which produce an alginate-like slime polysaccharide were shown to also synthesize an intracellular enzyme which can degrade these polysaccharides and the seaweed alginic acids. The enzyme acts as an eliminase introducing delta 4,5 unsaturation into the uronic acid moiety. It appears to be a polymannuronide lyase which degrades the polysaccharides, depending on ...

New anti-Pseudomonas agent isolated from a marine vibrio.

The report by R. G. Doggett et al. (Texas Rept. Biol. Med. 20:508, 1962) represented the first observation that strains of Pseudomonas aeraginosa isolated from patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) are atypical in certain physical and biochemical properties. These mucoid strains produced an unusual capsular polysaccharide when contrasted to the slime envelope of matted or smooth strains of the mic...
